    The 2.0-liter 16-valve Mitsubishi 4B11 engine has been produced by the concern since 2006 and is installed on the most popular models of the concern such as ASX, Outlander, Lancer or Eclipse Cross. This unit was created as part of a single alliance and is similar to the Chrysler ECN, Hyundai G4KA and G4KD.

    In 2002, Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Chrysler created the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance and in 2004 introduced a new line of 1.8, 2.0 or 2.4 liter petrol powertrains. The 2.0-liter 4B11 engine and its Chrysler ECN and Hyundai G4KA counterparts went into production in 2006. Their design is the same: distributed injection, an aluminum block with cast-iron sleeves, an aluminum 16-valve DOHC block head without hydraulic lifters and a timing chain drive. The Mitsubishi engine was distinguished by MIVEC phase shifters: either on the intake or on both shafts. On the basis of such a motor, a more modern unit with the 4J11 index was subsequently created.
    The 4B1 family also includes engines: 4B10, 4B11T and 4B12.

    Disadvantages of the Mitsubishi 4B11 engine

     This motor is considered very reliable, but at high mileage it is prone to oil consumption, either due to wear on the seats and valve guides or the occurrence of piston rings. There is also an ellipse of cylinders, as in any aluminum block with an open jacket.
     The second most popular problem is the stretching of the timing chain to 150,000 km. Replacing the timing kit is relatively inexpensive, but only if you do not encounter heavy wear on the phase regulator sprockets, the cost of which will not please you.
     You can also often find complaints about the noisy operation of the motor, regular lubricant leaks, burnout of the exhaust pipe ring and the appearance of cracks in the base of the exhaust manifold. And do not forget about adjusting the thermal clearances of the valves, there are no hydraulic lifters here.
